5 Components of Health Related Physical Fitness Assignment

Physical Education California State Standard 4: Students demonstrate knowledge of physical fitness concepts, principles and strategies to improve health and Fitness.

Introduction to Assignment:

Previously in P.E., we have been discussing the 5 components of health related physical fitness and how it pertains to class. The 5 components are cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility and body composition. Now, every student will have the opportunity to research this topic! You will look into what each category is, why it is important and an example of each topic all on the internet! The goal is to create a PowerPoint to present your findings. You may communicate through emails, google docs or Facebook to work on the project. You may also choose any other form of online communication as the ones I named are options.

Task:

The assignment is simple. Research each of the 5 components on the internet and present your findings on a PowerPoint presentation. You must include a title page (slide 1), a slide for each component (5 slides), an exercise program using the FITT formula (1 slide), a conclusion (1 slide) and a references page (last slide). Adding it up, there will be a total of 9 slides. Each health component slide must include what it is, why it is important and an exercise relating to that component. The FITT exercise program will include the Frequency, Intensity, Time and Type of exercise. The reference page must be done in APA format and at least 3 resources must be used. Meaning, 3 different websites.

To complete this assignment, you will need access to a computer that has internet access. Along with the internet access, you will need a google account or a Facebook account. The reason being is that all communication within in your group will be done through one of these programs. You will also need the software of PowerPoint because you will turn in your final work through a presentation using this program. Under course hyperlinks, you will find additional resources to help you find websites that contain knowledge in this topic. Feel free to use these or you can search for others on you own.

Assessment:

The project is worth a total of 20 points and due on August 3rd, 2013. No late work will be accepted. Click on the link for further details about the rubric and all details of what is expected of the group assignment.

Process:

Checklist to complete this assignment:
Laptop
Internet Access
PowerPoint
Facebook or Google (will need to create account if you do not have one)

Once through the checklist, then get with group. Communicate through email or on Facebook. Google docs is the easiest as you can all work on it at once. Start researching the 5 components on the internet and start recoding your data. Once you are prepared, start putting together a PowerPoint. You will need to download it from google docs and save it as a PowerPoint onto your computer. Once the project is completed with all 9 slides, then email it to me as an attachment. Be sure to look over the rubric to make sure you have reached all points. Do not forget to include all names on the assignment and every one must turn in their own copy.

Conclusion:

After completing this assignment, students will have mastered Standard 4 of Physical Education. Through a PowerPoint presentation, you will be able to demonstrate the knowledge of the health related fitness components along with an exercise program using the FITT formula. Students will also gain a better understanding of technology by using google docs, Facebook, PowerPoint and the internet to research and communicate the findings.
